WakeMed Health & Hospitals is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Critical Care Intensivist Physician to join our high-performing, patient-centered critical care team. This position provides comprehensive care to critically ill patients across multidisciplinary ICU settings and plays a key role in advancing WakeMed?s mission of delivering outstanding, compassionate care.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in clinical practice, strong collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and a commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care in adult intensive care units (medical, surgical, or mixed ICUs depending on assignment)
Perform and oversee critical care procedures, including but not limited to intubation, central line placement, arterial lines, and ventilator management
Lead and participate in multidisciplinary rounds, collaborating with hospitalists, specialists, advanced practice providers, nursing, and ancillary staff
Manage critically ill patients with complex conditions including respiratory failure, sepsis, ARDS, multi-organ dysfunction, and post-operative complications
Support and mentor APPs, residents, and medical students as applicable
Participate in rapid response and code teams as required
Ensure compliance with evidence-based protocols, clinical guidelines, and quality initiatives
Contribute to performance improvement efforts, patient safety initiatives, and organizational goals
Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
